Summer of Strength: Kerry’s Quiet Rise

Since our last update, we’re grateful to share that Kerry has continued to show meaningful progress in his recovery journey. Each week brings new milestones and a growing sense of independence and confidence. We’ve witnessed more awareness, stronger moments of connection, and a deeper understanding of his needs—even as he remains non-verbal.

In early May, Kerry had a major breakthrough: his trach was successfully removed, and he has returned to eating solid foods. He’s also now taking his medications by mouth, which means the PEG tube will likely be removed soon—a major step forward.

The team at Kessler continues to work with Kerry on rebuilding his speech, and while this process takes time, we remain hopeful. Naturally, there are moments of frustration, as it’s difficult to not be able to express yourself with words. But there’s also a quiet strength emerging—a reminder that when speech falls away, we’re often forced to communicate in more intentional, profound ways. That space can bring unexpected growth.

We’re especially proud to share that Kerry is scheduled to be discharged from the rehabilitation center on June 6, 2025—a date we’ve all been looking toward with hope. This wouldn’t be possible without the incredible support from his family, care team, loved ones, and each of you who continue to lift him up with love and encouragement.

Please keep Kerry in your thoughts as he approaches this next chapter. His journey is far from over, but today, we celebrate how far he’s come.

With gratitude,
