Leaps and Bounds

It’s hard to put into words just how much joy it brings me to share this update about our dear friend Kerry.

I recently spoke with a mutual friend who hadn’t seen Kerry in over a month. He’d gone to visit Kerry at home, and what he shared afterward truly moved me. He said his visit was heartwarming and uplifting — that for the first time in months, he saw signs of Kerry’s personality shining through. When he entered the room, Kerry’s eyes lit up. He recognized him. That simple, beautiful moment left our friend feeling hopeful and inspired.

He described Kerry’s progress as “leaps and bounds.” And he believed — as many of us do — that being home, surrounded by the love of his family, is playing a huge part in Kerry’s healing. There’s something powerful about being in a place where you feel safe, where your heart belongs. It’s as if Kerry just needed to be home to start becoming his old self again.

A few weeks ago, I had the chance to video chat with Kerry myself. He had just gotten back from the zoo with his family — he was tired, of course, but even through the screen, I could feel his spirit. He gave me a thumbs up, a small smile, and then something amazing happened — a sound escaped his voice as he tried to say hello. It might seem small to some, but to me, it was monumental.

Kerry is working hard through his speech therapy sessions, learning to make vocal sounds again. I have no doubt it’s only a matter of time before we hear more of his voice — a voice and laugh we’ve all missed dearly. Every glimpse of progress reminds me of what an incredible human being Kerry is. His perseverance is nothing short of astounding.

At home, his amazing wife continues to be by his side — driving him to therapy sessions, supporting him every day, and never wavering in her strength. I admire them both so deeply. Their resilience, their devotion, and their faith are nothing short of inspiring. And I pray, always, that their faith will be rewarded.

Thank you to everyone who continues to check in, pray, and support Kerry. Your love makes a difference. He is on a journey — and what a beautiful journey it is becoming.

With hope and gratitude,
